"Blind Women Standing Strong to See Without Sight!"

Mission

The mission of Just Us Blind Girls is to encourage blind and visually impaired women to stand strong, become self-confident, and live independently while embracing the organization's motto, "See Without Sight."

Throughout the years, the organization has celebrated the accomplishments of women who have overcome the challenges of living in a sighted world. Its members have excelled in higher education, built successful careers, served their communities, raised families, advocated for the blind, and pursued their personal interests while living as productive and independent citizens.

Today, Just Us Blind Girls continues its commitment to empowering blind and visually impaired women through fellowship, mentorship, education, advocacy, and mutual support, ensuring that every member has the opportunity to thrive and reach her full potential.

History

Just Us Blind Girls, Inc. is a support organization for blind and visually impaired women that was founded on April 7, 1994. The organization was the vision of Virginia Gray, who recognized the need for blind women to come together to support one another in overcoming the barriers that often hinder independence. She also gave the organization its name, Just Us Blind Girls. The charter members were Virginia Gray, Magnolia Lyons, Virginia Height, Jewell Bell, Lyn O'Neal, and Barbara King. Annie Maxwell joined the organization shortly after its founding.

Just Us Blind Girls began with six women who believed that by working together, they could make a greater impact in addressing the challenges faced by blind and visually impaired women. Since its inception, the organization has provided a safe and supportive environment where members can discuss issues affecting their daily lives, including health, employment, economic security, education, and independent living.
